A mother and her four-week-old baby both needed hospital treatment after they were ambushed last week in Detroit, Michigan. The woman, who asked to be identified only as Taylor, said she was lured to a home on the city's west side with her newborn boy, where they were attacked by family members of the child's father.
Taylor told Fox News she had visited the house under the pretence that the family members wanted to see the baby. However, the trip turned violent as the pair were severely beaten, leaving Taylor with wounds all over her body. The baby was thrown out of its pushchair and landed face down on the ground, leaving him with bruises and a swollen eye.
Three versus one assault
Taylor said the attackers suddenly came out and assaulted her in a 'three versus one' attack. She recalled that a car seat was snatched out of her hand just as she was picking it up, in a struggle that lasted for ten minutes.
'I was just feeling blows on every part of my body,' she said. She added that she hoped those responsible would be shown 'no mercy' by the authorities.
Case handed to prosecutors
The case is now in the hands of the Detroit Police Department, who are preparing to hand it over to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office to pursue charges.
