The owners of a karaoke bar in Ashton-under-Lyne, where a man was murdered in a 'violent and shocking attack', have voluntarily closed the venue. The Blues Cabaret and Karaoke Bar on Bow Street, formerly known as Olivers Bar, shut its doors out of respect for the victim and following discussions with police.
Victim and Arrest
A man in his 30s, believed to be a father, died at the scene on Saturday night. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of murder, who remains in custody for questioning. Formal identification of the victim has not yet taken place, but his family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers.
Bar Owners' Statement
In a Facebook post, the bar owners expressed their sorrow: 'Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family, friends and everyone affected by this heartbreaking event.' They urged the public to avoid speculation and unverified information on social media, adding: 'We are fully cooperating with Greater Manchester Police and all relevant authorities as their investigation continues.'
The owners confirmed the voluntary closure: 'As a mark of respect, and following discussions with the police, we have taken the decision to voluntarily close the venue until we have spoken with the appropriate authorities and departments.' They also thanked emergency services and their staff for their professionalism during the incident.
Police Appeal
Detective Superintendent Ian McNabb of GMP described the attack as 'violent and shocking', stating: 'Our thoughts remain with his family and loved ones at this difficult time. We are working at pace to establish the full circumstances of this incident.' He reassured the community that the attack is believed to be isolated and poses no wider threat.
