Manchester United winger Amad has called the team's 2-0 Champions League defeat at Atletico Madrid a "f***ing disgrace" in a post on Snapchat. The 24-year-old came on as a second-half substitute as United tried to rescue at least a draw in Spain.
Red card turns the tie
United fell behind inside the first minute when Pablo Barrios scored for Atletico. They grew into the game but their hopes were ended when Leny Yoro was sent off after a VAR review. Referee Glenn Nyberg had initially let play continue, but Yoro was judged to have fouled Jonathan David as the last defender. Ademola Lookman added a second goal for Atletico in the closing stages.
After the match, Amad wrote on Snapchat: "F*****g disgrace; I have no words."
Carrick focuses on chances
Lisandro Martinez directed his anger at the club's board over a lack of investment in the summer transfer window. Manager Michael Carrick said he had not listened to Martinez's post-match interview and wanted to focus on the game.
"It is a tough enough place to come and to get the start we had obviously puts us in a more difficult situation but I thought we grew into the game," Carrick said. "We had four big chances, big opportunities and the game can look very different."
He added: "They were really good opportunities as well, they weren't just little half ones. I thought we didn't finish the first half particularly well, started the second half a little bit better and started having some control without having a real threat. Then we had Bruno's [Fernandes] chance again, another good opportunity, and then the red card. That goes against us and then it's difficult after that."
Up next for United
United travel to Leeds on Sunday in the Premier League, where they have won only one of six games. They return to Champions League action next Wednesday away to Como.
