An air ambulance was called to Stockport Road East on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, after a car collided with a lamppost, prompting a major emergency response. Police and paramedics arrived at the scene near the junction with Lyndhurst Avenue shortly after 5pm, following reports that a vehicle had struck a lamppost.
Driver Suffered Suspected Medical Episode
It is understood that the driver, a woman, is believed to have suffered a medical episode shortly before the collision. The incident occurred at 5.20pm, and no arrests were made, according to Greater Manchester Police. Witnesses also suggested that a pedestrian may have been involved in the crash.
Emergency Response and Road Closure
The nearby Steelworks Bar on Stockport Road West urged people to avoid the area in a social media post. One witness commented, "There's been a massive crash on Stockport Road East. Near Bredbury doctors. Emergency services on the way. Road is blocked at the moment due to serious accident. Hope all is okay." Another added, "Road all blocked car's gone into a wall. Hope all okay, a lot of emergency services."
It is thought that no serious injuries were reported in connection with the incident. The road remained closed for approximately 90 minutes before being reopened to traffic. No further details have been confirmed by Greater Manchester Police.
