The wife and teenage daughter of a Bangladeshi politician have drowned off a beach in Essex. Shelina Rahman, a British-Bangladeshi teacher in her 40s, and her 15-year-old daughter Sameeha Rahman died after encountering difficulties at Seaview Avenue in West Mersea near Colchester on Wednesday evening.
Victims identified
Mrs Rahman's husband is Dr Monsur Rahman, the leader of Jubo Dal UK, the overseas youth wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party in Britain, according to family members and party officials. Mujibur Rahman, Shelina's father and Sameeha's grandfather, disclosed that a seven-year-old relative is currently on life support in a London hospital following the incident.
Family's loss
Mujibur Rahman shared that his daughter had visited him earlier on Wednesday before heading to the beach with family, adding that the family is still grappling with the devastating losses.
