Nine-week-old baby found unresponsive dies, inquest hears

An inquest opening has heard that a nine-week-old baby was pronounced dead at the scene after being found unresponsive by his parents at an address in Monmouthshire.

Gwent Coroner's court was told on Monday that Gwent Police were called alongside paramedics to a house on Llwynu Lane in Abergavenny at around 7.40am on August 20. The parents of Devon Robert Mark Lewis had found him unresponsive.

Resuscitation attempts unsuccessful

Senior Coroner Caroline Saunders told the court that resuscitation attempts were made but Devon could not be revived. The results of a post-mortem examination are pending further testing, the hearing was told.

Inquest opened and adjourned

Ms Saunders said an inquest has been opened due to the "wholly unexpected" nature of Devon's death. The proceedings are to include evidence from medical professionals, family members and the emergency services.

The inquest was adjourned until June 15 next year.
