A British mother who drowned while attempting to rescue her two children during a snorkelling trip in the Bahamas has been identified as Leanne Gregory, 36. The incident occurred on Tuesday in Bimini, where a strong current swept her two sons away. Gregory dived after them but was later pulled from the water unconscious.

Rescue Attempt and Tragic Outcome

Her husband, Nathan, performed resuscitation efforts before emergency services transported her to hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The couple's two sons were brought to safety by emergency responders.

Witnesses described the tides as so powerful that snorkelling expedition boats could not reach the family. Katie Rescinit, a witness, wrote on Facebook: 'I was there for all of it. She's a hero. Also pray for her husband. He went out to save the other boy but a bystander was able to get him. It was truly terrible and nobody's fault. Just two boys who were eager to get in the water and then things went crazy fast.'

Family and Official Response

The family, from Stapleford, Nottinghamshire, were on holiday in the Bahamas during the half-term break. Rescinit added: 'Two of the best parents I've ever seen in my entire life.'

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office stated: 'Our thoughts are with the family of a British woman who has died in the Bahamas. We are in contact with the local authorities and providing support to her family.'
