A young preschool-aged boy has been airlifted to a major children's hospital following a serious dog attack on the New South Wales Central Coast.

The incident occurred in the suburb of Bateau Bay shortly before 6pm on Tuesday evening. Multiple emergency services, including six ambulance resources, raced to the scene to assist the injured child.

Paramedics and specialist medical crews from CareFlight treated the boy at the scene for significant facial injuries sustained in the attack.

Stable Condition After Air Transfer

Due to the severity of his injuries, the decision was made to airlift the boy for specialist paediatric care. He was flown by helicopter to the Children's Hospital at Westmead.

Hospital authorities have confirmed that the young boy remains in a stable condition following the traumatic event.
