According to police reports, a blue Audi Q3 was travelling on the correct side of the A1 stretch between Alnwick and Belford when it suddenly and inexplicably veered into the opposing carriageway. The Audi then crashed head-on into a silver Mitsubishi Mirage, which was carrying three passengers at the time of the impact.

Emergency Response and Injuries

The North East Ambulance Service swiftly attended the scene, dispatching a substantial team including four ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic, a clinical team leader, and a Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) crew. In total, eight patients were treated at the site.

Two individuals sustained serious injuries, one to the head and another to the leg, while six others suffered minor injuries. All eight were transported to hospitals for further care; seven were taken to Northumbria Hospital in Cramlington, and one was transferred to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

One man in his 40s was reported to have serious injuries but was in a stable condition in hospital. Both vehicles involved in the collision sustained significant damage, underscoring the severity of the crash.
