Two people have been left with serious injuries after a car mounted a pavement and struck three pedestrians in Bulwell on New Year's Eve. The incident, which occurred on Main Street, is believed to have been caused by a medical emergency suffered by the driver.
Emergency Response on Main Street
Emergency services were called to Main Street in Bulwell at 11.24am on Wednesday, 31 December 2025. The street was closed as three ambulances attended the scene following reports that a car had left the road and ploughed into people on the pavement.
Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that the driver, a 70-year-old man, experienced a sudden medical issue while behind the wheel. This caused his vehicle to mount the kerb on the busy road.
Victims and Injuries Sustained
The force provided a detailed update on those affected. A 78-year-old woman sustained multiple serious injuries and remains in hospital receiving treatment. A second pedestrian, a 34-year-old man, is also being treated in hospital for a significant leg injury.
A third person was injured in the collision but did not require hospital treatment. The driver was taken to hospital as a precaution but has since been released. No arrests have been made, with police treating the incident as a tragic accident at this stage.
Police Investigation and Appeal
Sergeant Craig Luckett, of Nottinghamshire Police's roads policing unit, described it as a distressing incident witnessed by many members of the public. "Sadly, one woman sustained some very serious injuries and is currently being treated in hospital," he stated. "Another man also sustained a significant leg injury. As our investigation into what happened continues, our thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident."
An investigation into the full circumstances is ongoing. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with additional information to come forward. They are asked to call 101, quoting incident number 197 of 31 December 2025.
This is not the first serious incident on this road. In April 2025, a pensioner in his 80s was hit by a car on Main Street. He was taken to hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening and was allowed home several days later.
