Tributes to dad hit by car in Fife town

Steven Dick, a 48-year-old man from Lochgelly, has been named by police as the person who died after being hit by a car in a Fife town in the early hours of Saturday, October 17. He was walking along Lumphinnans Road at around 1.30am when a black Volkswagen Golf struck him. Emergency services attended the scene, but Steven was pronounced dead at the roadside.

Arrest and Road Closure

The 28-year-old male driver of the car was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence, and enquiries are ongoing. The road was closed for over six hours, reopening at 7.50am after officers completed an investigation.

Tributes have since been paid by Steven's family, who released an emotional statement through Police Scotland. They said: “Steven was a much-loved father, son and brother, who will be missed by all those who were closed to him and knew him.”

Appeal for Information

Sergeant Tom Aitken added: “Our thoughts remain with Steven’s family and friends at this difficult time. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash and we are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. If you were on Lumphinnans Road and witnessed the crash, or may have dash cam footage of significance, please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0302 of Saturday, 17 October, 2026.

Second Fatal Incident

The tragedy came just two days after another incident in which a man died after being hit by a car in Fife. Daren Baillie passed away after being struck by a red Suzuki Swift on the A92 at Freuchie shortly before midnight on Thursday, October 15. The 51-year-old died at the scene, and the female driver of the Suzuki was uninjured. Police say enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.

Daren's family remembered their “much-loved husband, dad, son, brother and friend” following the fatal incident. Daren worked in the area as a PE teacher for three decades. A statement released through Police Scotland read: “We are devastated by Daren’s tragic death and wish to express our gratitude for the support received. Daren was a much-loved husband, dad, son, brother and friend whose sudden passing has left a huge void in the lives of all who knew him. He spent 30 years as a PE teacher in Fife and took immense pride in the positive impact he had on his students, with a particular focus on supporting the most vulnerable learners to achieve their very best. We would like to thank the emergency services for their efforts and kindly ask for privacy as we mourn the loss of a dearly loved family member.”

Sergeant David Keeney, of the Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with Daren’s family and friends at this difficult time. We are continuing to appeal for information and would ask anyone who witnessed the crash or may have dash-cam footage which could assist, to contact us as soon as possible.”
