Four people, including a baby girl, have died following a serious collision on the A38 near Derby. A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Emergency services were called to the stretch of road between the A50 Toyota Island and the A516 at around 11pm on Saturday. A red Hyundai carrying five occupants had left the carriageway and struck trees.
Police confirmed that two women, aged 18 and 30, and a 36-year-old man were pronounced dead at the scene. The baby girl was taken to hospital but later died. All four were passengers in the vehicle.
The driver, a 33-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries and remains there. He has been arrested. All those involved are from Leeds in West Yorkshire.
The road was closed for several hours while emergency services worked at the scene. Police have informed the families, who are being supported by specialist officers.
