A 37-year-old woman has been arrested after a horrific single-vehicle crash claimed the lives of three women, including two devoted mothers from Leicester.
Tragic Early Morning Collision on A46
The fatal incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, December 13. A blue BMW 5 Series left the carriageway on the A46 between Thrussington and Sileby. Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after 1am after an alarm was raised by another passenger in the vehicle.
Tragically, Neeru Patel, 42, and Bhamini Karsan, 42, both from Leicester, were pronounced dead. The family of a third woman who died has requested that she remains unnamed. A fourth person in the car sustained minor injuries.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Leicestershire Police confirmed that a 37-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. It was reported that the suspect was initially released under investigation before being rearrested.
Detectives from the serious collision investigation unit have issued an appeal for witnesses. They believe the car was travelling on the A46 from Nottingham prior to the crash.
"This is a tragic incident with three people losing their lives," a police spokesperson said. "We are working to understand what led the car to leave the carriageway and any information from witnesses may be helpful in establishing this."
Officers are urging anyone who was driving in the area between 12.30am and 1.05am to check their dashcam footage and contact them.
Families Pay Heartbreaking Tribute
The grieving families have released touching tributes to the two named victims, remembering them as kind and dedicated parents.
In a statement, Neeru Patel's family described her as living a life "rooted in love, compassion, and quiet faith, devoted above all to her family and to caring for others." They added that her values live on through her two children.
The family of Bhamini Karsan said: "Bhamini was a loving and devoted mother, wife, and daughter, remembered for her warm and bubbly personality and her kindness to others. She was deeply loved by her family and cherished by friends and the wider community."
