Tragic Three-Car Collision Claims Three Lives in Co Tyrone
Three people have lost their lives and four others sustained injuries in a devastating three-car crash on the Armagh Road near Moy, County Tyrone. The incident, which occurred on Saturday night, has been described by local representatives as a "very dark day" for the community.
Emergency Response and Fatalities
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 10:20 pm on Saturday. Upon arrival, two men aged 31 and 48, along with a 23-year-old woman, were pronounced dead at the location. Four additional individuals were injured in the collision, with three of them still receiving medical treatment in hospital.
Assistant Chief Constable Davy Beck provided details about the vehicles involved, identifying them as a red BMW, a grey Volkswagen, and a white Audi. The Armagh Road at Moy remains closed as police continue their investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Community and Political Reactions
Fermanagh & South Tyrone MLA Diana Armstrong expressed her profound sorrow, stating that this represents "a very dark day for families who have been plunged into shock and mourning." She extended her "deepest sympathies and sincere condolences" to those affected, acknowledging they must be "totally at a loss to comprehend the scale of this tragedy."
The Ulster Unionist Party deputy leader praised the emergency responders, saying: "My thanks go to the PSNI and emergency services who attended the scene and transferred those affected for medical treatment." She added that the loss of life has "shocked the local community" and many will be holding the impacted families "in their thoughts and prayers."
In a social media post, Daire Hughes described the news as "devastating," offering "sincerest sympathies to the families and friends of those who died in this immense tragedy, and to the affected communities."
SDLP Armagh councillor Thomas O'Hanlon issued a statement noting that "three families and their wider communities have been plunged into deep grief." He emphasized that "there are truly no words that can ease such pain" beyond offering thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. O'Hanlon also expressed condolences to the "first responders from all emergency services who attended the scene and were faced with such harrowing circumstances."
