Tragic Details of the Fatal Collision

Driver Trevor Wynn, 17, and his passenger, 17-year-old Summer Louise, were both pronounced dead at the scene. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning when the Toyota they were in left the carriageway and collided with a tree. The location was on a road between Dinnington and Todwick, near Rotherham.

Emergency services, including police and ambulance crews, were called to the scene at around 2.40am. Despite their efforts, the two teenagers could not be saved. A third occupant of the vehicle, an 18-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital receiving treatment.

Ongoing Police Investigation and Arrests

South Yorkshire Police's Serious Collisions Unit has launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances that led to the crash. As part of their enquiries, officers have arrested two men, aged 18 and 19.

One man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, while the other was detained on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. Both individuals have been interviewed and subsequently released on police bail pending further investigation.

Appeal for Witnesses and Information

Sergeant John Taylor from the Serious Collisions Unit described the incident as a "tragic collision" that has robbed two young people of their futures. He emphasised the unit's commitment to finding answers for the grieving families.

Police are now urgently appealing to the public for assistance. They are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the events leading up to the crash or who has relevant dashcam footage. Officers are particularly interested in footage of the car prior to the collision.

Anyone with information is urged to contact South Yorkshire Police, quoting the relevant incident number. The community around Rotherham has been left in shock by the loss of two young lives in such sudden and tragic circumstances.
