Queensferry Crossing shut after M90 crash, gridlock

The Queensferry Crossing northbound is closed following a crash on the M90, with traffic at a standstill and diversions in place via the Forth Road Bridge.

The incident was reported around 8pm on Thursday, October 29, when Police Scotland was alerted to a collision on the bridge reportedly involving three vehicles. Emergency services, including Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service, attended the scene. Two hours later, the M90 remains closed northbound with both lanes blocked.

Diversions and Delays

Police are diverting traffic over the Forth Road Bridge, and drivers have been warned to expect lengthy delays. It is not yet known how many people were involved in the crash or whether anyone has been injured or taken to hospital.

Photos taken at the scene show the bridge at a complete gridlock. Motorists report the northbound carriageway is "completely blocked" with a major emergency service presence. At least six blue-lit emergency vehicles were seen heading to the scene, and drivers describe the route as a "stand still" and a "mess", urging others to avoid the area.

Witness Accounts

One driver said: "Police now diverting traffic onto old bridge and cars reversing off bridge slip. Avoid avoid avoid." Another wrote: "QFC closed. Large number of emergency services on scene!"

A third described: "There’s been a major incident northbound. At complete standstill, six fire engines and numerous ambulances there... avoid if possible." A fourth shared: "At least six emergency vehicles have went onto the bridge in the space of 10 minutes," while another reported: "Bridge backed up and stand still."

Another driver added: "Cars northbound on Queensferry Crossing not moving, lots of blue lights."

Official Statement

A Traffic Scotland spokesperson said: "The M90 remains closed northbound due to a road traffic collision blocking both lanes. Police are currently diverting traffic over the Forth Road Bridge."

Police Scotland, the Scottish Ambulance Service and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for comment. Further updates on the closure are expected as the situation develops.
