A person has tragically died following an incident on the train tracks near Bolton, Greater Manchester. Emergency services were called to the line near Blackrod station at around 2:20 pm yesterday (Sunday, June 7) after reports of a casualty on the tracks. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation Underway
The death is not being treated as suspicious, a spokesperson for the British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed. No further details about the individual have been released at this stage. In a statement, the BTP spokesperson said: "Officers were called to the line near Blackrod at 2:19 pm on Sunday (7 June) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended; however, sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
Rail Services Disrupted
The train line between Bolton and Preston was blocked yesterday afternoon as emergency crews responded to the fatality, leading to cancellations and delays. National Rail issued a statement: "The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Bolton and Preston. Whilst they carry out their work, all lines between these stations are closed. Trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised." Services have since resumed, but passengers were advised to check for updates.
