An elderly man has died following a road collision in a supermarket car park in Knotty Ash, Merseyside Police have confirmed. The pedestrian, described as being in his 80s, was involved in a serious collision with an orange van at the Sainsbury's car park on East Prescot Road.

Incident details

Officers were called to the scene at around 3.40pm on Saturday, October 10, after reports of a serious collision involving the van and a pedestrian. The man was taken to hospital following the incident. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he died on October 26.

The van driver stopped at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries, the force has said.

Investigation and appeal

Enquiries are ongoing, and officers are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it to come forward. Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, the Lead Investigating Officer from the Merseyside Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "My thoughts are with the man's family at this desperately sad time."

He added: "We have launched an investigation, and our priority is to ensure we get answers for his family and establish the facts about what happened. The car park was busy at the time of the collision, and while we already have some witness accounts and CCTV footage, I would ask people to cast their minds back to 10 October."

DS Timpson also said: "If you saw the collision or feel you have information that may help our enquiries, please get in touch. Equally, if you have any additional footage, it could help us to establish exactly how this collision took place."
