A motorcyclist has been seriously injured in a collision with a car on the M4 motorway, causing major delays and a closure of the westbound carriageway.
The incident occurred near junction 12 at Theale, with police called at 2.20pm. The carriageway was closed at 2.35pm and reopened around 5pm, but an 'up and over' diversion remains in place.
The South Central Ambulance Service dispatched an ambulance officer, a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance crew, and the Thames Valley air ambulance. One patient, believed to be a male, was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital with serious multiple injuries. Two other patients were treated at the scene but did not require hospitalisation.
Thames Valley Police confirmed the road traffic collision involved a motorcyclist and a car. The diversion directs traffic off the motorway at junction 12 onto the roundabout and back onto the carriageway, bypassing the crash site. Delays of up to 45 minutes were reported.
