Man jailed after 100mph M6 chase ends with Audi flipping

A man who led police on a 100mph chase along the M6 motorway has been jailed after his car flipped over at a roundabout. Hai Nguyen, of no fixed abode, appeared at Chester Crown Court on Monday 26 October, where he was sentenced to 12 months in prison and disqualified from driving for two years and three months.

The 40-year-old had pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving without insurance.

Police pursuit on the M6

On Wednesday 20 July 2026, at 11.30pm, officers displayed a 'follow me' message in their police vehicle after a black Audi A6 S-Line was showing as having no insurance on the M6 northbound in Cheshire. Officers attempted to get the driver to follow them into Knutsford Services, but the vehicle failed to comply.

They again tried to get the Audi driver to follow them off the motorway network at junction 19, but the vehicle again failed to comply. Officers then activated their emergency equipment, and the driver sped up to speeds of around 100mph, continuing onto the M56 westbound where he was driving along the hard shoulder.

Crash and arrest

The vehicle then exited the motorway at junction 10 of the M56 and lost control at the roundabout. The car flipped and rolled over before landing the right way up. Nguyen, the sole occupant, attempted to climb out of the driver's window before he was detained by officers.

Cheshire Police spokesperson PC Payne said: "Nguyen's driving was incredibly dangerous and put other members of the public at risk. Thankfully, the roads were quiet at that time of the night, and no other motorists were injured when he lost control of his vehicle. Despite the serious collision, he still tried to climb out of the car window before being detained by our officers."

PC Payne added: "Let this be a reminder that the rules of the road are in place for a reason and you will be caught and held accountable if you choose to ignore them."
