A man in his 70s died after his car hit a tree on Woolton Road in Woolton on Saturday morning.
Emergency services were called shortly after 9.15am on August 1 following reports that a red Skoda Fabia had collided with a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Road closed near Allerton Towers
A section of Woolton Road remains closed near Allerton Towers to allow for ongoing investigative work. Drivers have been asked to avoid the area where possible and seek alternative routes. The road is expected to re-open this afternoon.
Police appeal for dashcam footage
Roads Policing Sergeant James Hannon said: "Our thoughts are with the man's family at this incredibly difficult time.
"For their sake we are very keen to understand exactly what happened, and I appeal to anyone who was travelling in the area at the time to check their dashcam footage for anything that may assist our enquiries, including footage of the collision itself or the moments leading up to it.
"Front and rear dashcams often capture vital evidence even if the driver didn't see anything at the time, so please check yours if you were driving on Woolton Road at about 9.15am on Saturday.
"No matter how insignificant your information or footage may seem, it could prove vital to our investigation."
