M8 road closures as work begins to reinstate footbridges
M8 road closures for footbridge reinstatement works

Overnight closures are planned on the M8 between junctions 21 and 23 from August 10 as work begins to reinstate the Cornwall Street and Kirkwood Street footbridges. The bridges were removed in summer 2024 for off-site refurbishment and initially expected to close for six months. The reinstallation is scheduled for November, with completion in February.

Closure Schedule

The overnight closures will take place between 8pm and 6am during three periods: from August 10 to August 15, August 17 to August 22, and August 24 to August 29.

Traffic Management and Diversions

Signed diversion routes will be in place. Westbound closures include the M8 Junction 21 Carnoustie Street on-slip, M74 Junction 1 to M8 Junction 22, and M8 Junction 22 to Junction 23 with lane closures. Eastbound, M8 Junction 24 to Junction 22 will be closed with lane restrictions. Pedestrians and cyclists are diverted via Percy Street and Beech Avenue footbridges until the refurbished structures are reinstated.
