The M5 motorway near Bristol has been closed in both directions following a serious police incident, causing severe delays for motorists. The closure is between junctions 18 and 19 southbound and junctions 21 and 18 northbound, near Avonmouth and close to Bristol Airport.
National Highways has reported delays of up to 65 minutes northbound and 20 minutes southbound, with normal traffic conditions not expected until 11.30pm. Southbound traffic is being turned around at the scene.
One driver reported being stopped for nearly two hours with no communication. Motorists are advised to find alternative routes and avoid the area if possible.
