Liverpool restaurant evacuated after car crashes into Tiger Rock

A car crashed into the front window of Thai restaurant Tiger Rock on North John Street in Liverpool city centre today, November 7, at around 12.35pm, prompting the evacuation of surrounding businesses and multi-street closures.

The Peugeot driver exited the vehicle and remained at the scene to assist officers. Merseyside Police indicated there is no evidence the crash was deliberate.

Gas leak and evacuations

The collision caused a gas leak, leading emergency services to evacuate surrounding businesses and set up cordons on multiple streets. Closures were established at junctions including Castle Street/Harrington Street, Dale Street/North John Street, and North John Street/Lord Street, alongside a cordon on Cook Street.

North West Ambulance Service assessed three people inside the restaurant for minor injuries.

Engineers respond and cordon lifted

Cadent engineers capped the gas leak, and a structural engineer inspected the site and confirmed the building's structural integrity was not compromised. Fire crews stood down, ambulance response units were released, and police reduced cordons to North John Street between Victoria Street and Harrington Street at around 3pm.

The Peugeot was taken away by recovery services, and the cordon was fully taken down at 3.50pm.
