A Florida husband has been charged with driving under the influence following a tragic accident that claimed the life of his wife, who fell from a golf cart he was operating.
A Fatal Evening in a Luxury Community
The incident occurred in the upscale Nocatee residential estate in St. Johns County, Florida, on November 30 at approximately 10:45 pm. According to arrest records obtained by Law & Crime, Angelo Theodosiou, 64, was driving the golf cart when his wife, 58-year-old Christina Theodosiou, fell and struck her head.
Police and emergency services rushed to the scene. Christina's injuries were so severe she was airlifted to Jacksonville Memorial Trauma Hospital. Despite medical intervention, she succumbed to her injuries the following day.
Signs of Impairment and Legal Proceedings
Arrest records from the St Johns County Sheriff's Office state that officers suspected Angelo Theodosiou was at fault and under the influence of alcohol. The report describes his 'eyes were bloodshot and watery' and notes 'an odor of alcoholic beverage emitted from the defendant'.
Initially, Theodosiou agreed to take a standardised sobriety test but later refused. The arrest report details that once in custody, he repeatedly asked why he was arrested. At the county jail, he was read his implied consent rights multiple times but ultimately failed to provide a valid breath sample.
As a result, Angelo Theodosiou now faces formal charges of driving under the influence and refusing to submit to testing. He was bonded out of jail on December 1 and is scheduled for a court appearance on January 6, 2026.
A Family in Mourning and a Defence of Innocence
Theodosiou's attorney, L. Lee Lockett, has spoken publicly in his client's defence. 'My client maintains his innocence and we're looking forward to receiving the evidence,' Lockett told The St. Johns Citizen. 'He didn't cause the accident, he was not impaired.'
Lockett emphasised the profound emotional toll on his client, describing him as 'heartbroken,' 'distraught' and 'depressed as can be' following the death of his wife. The lawyer confirmed the entire grieving family is standing by Angelo Theodosiou during this tragedy.
The couple, originally from New York where Angelo was a successful restaurant owner in Jackson Heights, had moved to the affluent Florida community for their retirement. Friends described them as 'both wonderful people' who were 'really happy' in their new life.
The accident highlights the risks associated with golf cart use, even within private residential communities. The Nocatee area in St. Johns County is known as a high-income region and a popular retirement destination, where such vehicles are commonly used for local transport.
