Three teenagers and a man in his 50s have died in a collision between a car and a taxi in Bolton, Greater Manchester, police said. The crash occurred on Wigan Road at about 12.45am on Sunday.
A red Seat Leon collided with a Citroën C4 Picasso taxi. Greater Manchester police confirmed that the driver of the Seat and two passengers, as well as the driver of the Citroën, died at the scene. Five injured passengers were taken to hospital for treatment.
Formal identification is ongoing, but Chief Inspector Helen McCormick stated that the victims are believed to be three teenagers aged between 18 and 19 and a taxi driver in his 50s. She said: “One incident is one too many and will do nothing to bring back the four lives lost here today. My thoughts are with everyone affected.”
Emergency services, including fire engines and a technical response unit, attended the scene. A Greater Manchester fire and rescue service spokesperson said: “Firefighters arrived quickly to make the area safe and used cutting equipment to help remove people from the vehicles before passing them into the care of North West ambulance service.”
A resident living near the crash site reported hearing a loud bang and a woman screaming.
