Tragedy Strikes on Co Louth Road
Five young people in their early 20s have lost their lives following a devastating two-vehicle collision in County Louth on Saturday night. The incident occurred on the L3168 at Gibstown, just outside Dundalk, shortly after 9pm on 15 November 2025.
Emergency Response and Investigation
Irish police, An Garda Síochána, have described the crash as "shocking and devastating." A major incident response was initiated, involving Gardaí, Dundalk Fire Brigade, HSE paramedics, and staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
Superintendent Charlie Armstrong confirmed that the collision involved a Volkswagen Golf and a Toyota Landcruiser. All five deceased – three men and two women – were occupants of the Volkswagen Golf. A man in his 20s from the Volkswagen and a man and woman from the Toyota Landcruiser were transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
The scene on the L3168 remained closed on Sunday for a detailed technical and forensic examination by Garda forensic collision investigators. Post-mortem examinations are also scheduled to be carried out.
Appeal for Information and Community Impact
Superintendent Armstrong expressed his profound condolences to the families of the victims, noting that the tragedy will have a deep impact on communities in Carrickmacross, Dromconrath, and in Scotland. Family liaison officers have been appointed to support the bereaved families.
Gardaí are urgently appealing for information. They are asking anyone who was travelling on the L3168 between 8.30pm and 9.15pm on Saturday, or anyone with relevant camera footage or images from the Gibstown area, to come forward.
