Drunk Passenger's Mid-Flight Rant Leaves Travellers in Fear

Magistrates heard how a heavily intoxicated plane passenger created a scene of terror aboard a flight from Krakow to Bristol, shouting aggressive statements including "I'm savage, I drink JD" and defiantly declaring "You can't tell me what to do, I'm English" when confronted by crew members.

Chaotic Descent as Passenger Ignores Safety Commands

Stephen Biofield, a 61-year-old resident of Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, had consumed multiple double measures of alcohol at the Polish airport prior to boarding the aircraft on November 11, 2025. As the plane began its descent into Bristol Airport, his behavior escalated dramatically, causing widespread alarm among both passengers and flight attendants.

Prosecutor Michael Collins detailed to North Somerset Magistrates' Court how multiple witnesses described Biofield as loud, volatile, and visibly intoxicated, with his profanity-laden outbursts creating a palpable atmosphere of fear throughout the cabin. So concerned were fellow travellers that several began recording the incident on their mobile phones as events unfolded.

Defiance of Pilot's Direct Instructions

The situation deteriorated further when Biofield disregarded explicit commands from the pilot to return to his seat and remain there for the critical landing phase. This refusal to comply with essential safety protocols directly endangered the secure operation of the aircraft, according to the prosecution's account.

"The cabin around him was visibly fearful," Collins stated, emphasizing how Biofield's actions compromised not only his own safety but that of everyone on board. The disruptive passenger continued his tirade even after police officers boarded the aircraft upon landing at Bristol Airport.

Post-Landing Confrontation and Legal Proceedings

Body-worn camera footage captured Biofield's continued aggression toward law enforcement, including him calling an officer offensive names. Prosecutors noted he had glazed red eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol during this confrontation, requiring physical restraint by authorities.

In court, Biofield appeared wearing blue jeans and a green zip-up top, where he pleaded guilty to all four charges brought against him:

  1. Entering an aircraft while drunk
  2. Failing to obey the lawful commands of the pilot to remain seated for aircraft safety
  3. Behaving in a threatening, abusive, insulting or disorderly manner toward aircraft crew
  4. Using threatening, abusive words or behavior likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to other passengers

Remorse and Health Considerations

Biofield admitted to drinking "a bit" at Krakow airport before departure, specifically acknowledging two double drinks. The court heard he later expressed being ashamed and embarrassed by his conduct, fully accepting responsibility for his actions.

Due to significant health conditions requiring proper assessment, the defense requested a pre-sentence report from probation services. Biofield was released on unconditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Bristol Crown Court for sentencing on April 7.

This incident highlights the serious consequences of disruptive behavior aboard aircraft, where safety protocols exist to protect all travellers during vulnerable phases of flight such as takeoff and landing.
