A driver has suffered potentially life-changing injuries after a car flipped onto its side in a crash on a busy Manchester road.
The smash happened on Cheetham Hill Road, near the junction with Brideoak Street, at around 2.15am on Thursday, July 30. Police said it involved one car, which appeared to have hit a lamppost before flipping over.
Emergency response
Video footage showed a large emergency response on the scene in the early hours including police, firefighters and paramedics. A cordon was put in place across the stretch of the road as firefighters worked to rescue the driver from the car.
The driver, who was the only person in the car, was pulled from the vehicle and rushed to hospital. A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said they suffered 'potentially life-changing injuries'.
The GMP spokesperson said: "Police were called to a single-car road traffic collision. A car appears to have collided with a streetlight and flipped onto its side. The sole occupant was taken to hospital. Their injuries don't appear life-threatening but are potentially life-changing."
Fire service details
A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "At 2.15am on Thursday 30 July, two fire engines from Manchester Central and an enhanced rescue unit from Ashton Under Lyne attended a traffic collision at the junction of Cheetham Hill Road and Brideoak Street. The collision involved one car, and one casualty was rescued from the vehicle by our crews using cutting equipment and first aid kits. Crews were at the scene for around 55 minutes."
