In a shocking display of recklessness, a driver has been sentenced to 14 months in prison after performing a U-turn and driving the wrong way down a motorway in a brazen attempt to avoid paying a £6.40 toll. Jordan Sneddon, 28, from Tamworth, executed this dangerous manoeuvre in his black MG, propelling himself into oncoming traffic on the M6 south carriageway.
High-Speed Chase and Crash
Concerned motorists, alarmed by Sneddon hurtling past them in the opposite direction, immediately alerted the police. Dashcam footage captured the ensuing pursuit, where Sneddon reached speeds of 90mph in a 30mph zone. Despite police attempts to pull him over, he refused to stop, running a red light before crashing into a roundabout.
Arrest and Sentencing
After the crash, Sneddon continued to flee until his car, severely damaged, came to a halt. Upon arrest, he declined to take a breathalyser test. At Stafford Crown Court on Monday, he admitted to dangerous driving and was convicted of failing to provide a specimen for analysis. In addition to the 14-month jail term, he was banned from driving for two years and seven months.
PC Mark Boyles of Staffordshire Police condemned Sneddon's actions, stating, 'Sneddon's driving was incredibly reckless and could have easily resulted in someone being seriously or fatally injured. I'm pleased that we were able to resolve this incident safely and prevent potential injury to both Sneddon and other road users.'
