Driver Caught Going Wrong Way After Serious Newport Crash

A motorist drove the wrong way down the A4810 in Newport after ignoring police road closures put in place for a serious collision.

Officers from Gwent Police were at the scene of the crash when they saw a vehicle approaching them on the wrong side of the carriageway. The driver had “completely ignored” the closures, believing it was the best route to their destination, the force said.

Vehicle stopped at investigation site

The car came to a stop where investigation work was still ongoing. Police then spoke to the driver and checked the vehicle.

A Gwent Police spokesman said: “Officers spoke with the driver and conducted an inspection of the vehicle and found that two of the tyres were well below the legal limit, with cord exposed.”

Driver reported and vehicle seized

The driver was issued with a traffic offence report for driving without due care and attention and for using a motor vehicle with two defective tyres.

The vehicle was prohibited due to the dangerous defects and subsequently seized.
