Emergency services are at the scene of a collision on Chester Road in Sunderland after a car smashed into a house. The crash is understood to have happened at around 5.30am, and the vehicle remained wedged into the building.
A police cordon has been put in place at the junction with Kayall Road, with Chester Road closed in both directions near Sunderland Royal Hospital. It is not yet known whether anyone has been injured in the incident.
Road sealed off by police
Traffic cameras show the car still embedded in the house, with the road taped off by officers. It appears a recovery operation will be needed to remove the vehicle while the incident is being dealt with.
