A VW T-Roc crashed into a house in Sunderland in the early hours of today, leaving one person unconscious.
The collision happened at the junction of Chester Road and Kayll Road, near Sunderland Royal Hospital, at around 5am. Police, paramedics and a fire crew attended, and the vehicle was left wedged in the wall of the property more than six hours later.
Patient taken to hospital with chest and pelvic injuries
The North East Ambulance Service said an unconscious patient was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary after being treated at the scene by a doctor and paramedics for chest and pelvic injuries. Two other patients refused assessment from ambulance crews and were taken to hospital by police.
Chester Road was cordoned off by police while the scene was investigated.
A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said: "We received a call just after 5am today for reports of a car in collision with a house near the junction between Kayll Road and Chester Road in Sunderland.
"We dispatched three ambulance crews, a doctor in a rapid response car, a hazardous area response team (HART) crew and a specialist paramedic. One unconscious patient was taken to the RVI in Newcastle after treatment from the doctor and paramedics for chest and pelvic injuries.
"Two other patients refused assessment from our crews and were taken to hospital by the police."
Fire service and police at the scene
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they attended and helped clear railings before standing down. Northumbria Police has been approached for comment.
