A major city street in Bristol was plunged into lockdown on Sunday afternoon following a serious hit-and-run collision between a car and a cyclist.
Major Emergency Response on North Street
Emergency services, including at least two fire engines, four police cars, and ambulance crews, rushed to North Street in the Bedminster area after receiving reports of the incident just after 12:30pm on Sunday, 11 January. A police helicopter was also deployed to assist with the operation, circling above the scene as officers worked below.
The driver of the car involved failed to stop at the scene, prompting a significant search operation by Avon and Somerset Police. Their enquiries led to the location of the vehicle and the subsequent arrest of one person, who is now in police custody.
Road Closures and Ongoing Police Investigation
To facilitate a thorough investigation, police have implemented a substantial cordon, closing North Street at its junctions with King William Street, Sion Road, Braunton Road, Henburn Road, and Fairfield Road. Motorists have been advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes while forensic examinations and evidence gathering continue.
A police spokesperson confirmed the severity of the incident, stating officers were dealing with a "serious collision." The condition of the cyclist involved has not been disclosed at this time.

Investigators are now making a direct appeal to the public for assistance. They are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have captured relevant footage.
