Audi flips after 100mph M56 chase; driver jailed

A 40-year-old man has been jailed for dangerous driving after a 100mph police chase across the M6 and M56 in Cheshire ended with his Audi flipping onto its roof.

Hai Nguyen, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 12 months in prison and banned from driving for two years and three months when he appeared at Chester Crown Court on Monday, October 26. He had previously pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving without insurance.

Chase Begins on the M6

The incident began at around 11.30pm on Wednesday, July 20, when officers spotted a black Audi A6 S-Line travelling northbound on the M6 with no insurance. Police activated a 'follow me' message on their vehicle's display, attempting to direct the driver into Knutsford Services. However, the Audi failed to stop.

Officers made a second attempt to get the driver to leave the motorway at junction 19, but he again failed to comply. Police then activated their emergency equipment as the Audi continued along the motorway at speeds of up to 100mph, the court heard. The driver continued onto the M56 westbound, at one point travelling along the hard shoulder.

Crash and Arrest

The chase came to an end when the Audi left the motorway at junction 10 and lost control at the roundabout. Footage shows the car flipping and rolling onto its roof before landing back on its wheels.

Nguyen, who was the sole occupant, attempted to flee by climbing out through the driver's window but was detained by officers. He has now been jailed.

PC Payne said: “Nguyen’s driving was incredibly dangerous and put other members of the public at risk.

“Thankfully, the roads were quiet at that time of the night, and no other motorists were injured when he lost control of his vehicle. Despite the serious collision, he still tried to climb out of the car window before being detained by our officers.

“Let this be a reminder that the rules of the road are in place for a reason and you will be caught and held accountable if you choose to ignore them.”
