Disturbing new video footage has emerged showing a car racing through a residential area at a staggering 122mph, just a day before it was involved in a fatal head-on collision in Bolton that claimed four lives.
The Horrifying Footage
The video, believed to have been recorded from inside the vehicle and later posted on social media, captures a terrifying journey. The car, a Seat Leon, is seen weaving down the middle of a busy road in a built-up area, overtaking other motorists at speeds nearly double the UK's highest speed limit. The footage was recorded at around 3am on Friday, January 10.
Police confirm the clip is part of their investigation into the devastating crash that occurred less than 24 hours later. It is believed the video originated from one of the three teenagers who were in the car when it was filmed and who later died in the collision.
The Fatal Collision and Victims
At 12.54am on Sunday, January 11, the same Seat Leon collided with a Citroen C4 Picasso on Wigan Road in Bolton. The three teenagers in the Seat Leon – Jibrael Mukhtar and Muhammad Danyaal Asghar Ali, both 18, and Farhan Patel, 19 – were all declared dead at the scene.
Also killed was the driver of the Citroen, 54-year-old taxi driver Mosrab Ali. His family have paid a moving tribute, describing him as the "gentlest soul". His daughter, Humayra, 29, said he was a "safe driver" who would reassure his family by saying "don't worry about me".
Five other passengers were injured in the smash and were rushed to hospital. Specialist officers are supporting all the families involved as formal identification procedures continue.
Police Investigation and Community Impact
Detective Inspector Andrew Page, of Greater Manchester Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, stated that work is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the "terrible incident". He also made a direct appeal regarding the viral video.
"We would encourage people to be mindful of sharing footage on social media given the impact this will have on all the families involved in such a tragic incident," DI Page said.
The identities of the three teenagers were confirmed by the Bolton Council of Mosques. A friend of one of the boys told the Daily Mail the speeding video showed "stupid" and "crazy" antics, adding that one father had been left "absolutely broken" by the tragedy.
