Disturbing new video footage has emerged showing a car hurtling through a residential area of Bolton at a staggering 122mph, just a day before it was involved in a fatal head-on collision that claimed four lives.
The Horrific Footage and Fatal Collision
The hair-raising clip, believed to have been recorded from inside the vehicle and later posted on social media, captures the car speeding down a busy road in the early hours of Friday, January 10. The vehicle is seen overtaking others by driving straight down the middle of the street, with the speedometer showing it reaching 122mph – nearly double the UK's national speed limit.
Tragically, less than 24 hours after this footage was taken, at 12.54am on Sunday, January 11, the same Seat Leon collided head-on with a Citroen C4 Picasso taxi on Wigan Road, Bolton. Three teenagers inside the Seat – Jibrael Mukhtar, 18, Muhammad Danyaal Asghar Ali, 18, and Farhan Patel, 19 – were declared dead at the scene. The taxi driver, 54-year-old Mosrab Ali, also lost his life. Five additional passengers were injured and taken to hospital.
Families Left Devastated and Police Investigation
The family of taxi driver Mosrab Ali have paid a heartfelt tribute, describing him as the "gentlest soul". His daughter, Humayra, 29, said he was a "safe driver" who would reassure his family by saying, "Don't worry about me." She expressed profound shock and confusion at his death.
The identities of the three teenagers were confirmed by the Bolton Council of Mosques. A friend of one of the boys told the Daily Mail the speeding video depicted "stupid" and "crazy" antics, and that one father had been left "absolutely broken" by the tragedy.
Detective Inspector Andrew Page, of Greater Manchester Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, stated that officers are working to "establish the full circumstances of this terrible incident." He issued a plea to the public, urging people to be mindful of sharing the distressing footage on social media due to the immense impact on the grieving families.
Appeal for Witnesses and Information
DI Page praised the rapid response of emergency services to the "particularly challenging scene." While the road has since reopened, police continue to appeal for witnesses. They are asking anyone who saw the vehicle being driven prior to the collision, witnessed the crash itself, or has dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.
