A large emergency service response was seen in Middleton town centre this afternoon (Wednesday, July 22) after a man climbed onto the roof of a property.
A police cordon is in place at Market Place, with the road blocked from both ends and buses being diverted. Images from the scene showed a significant emergency services presence.
Emergency services at the scene
Greater Manchester Police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene at around 1pm. A number of ambulance crews attended, along with specialist units including the Enhanced Rescue Unit and a Tactical Aid Unit.
Later, additional police units arrived, including officers equipped with shields. Police were also seen investigating at a top-floor window of one of the buildings along the street.
Stretcher seen inside cordon
Emergency services could be seen outside one of the buildings on Market Place with a stretcher inside the cordon.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "We are responding to a man on the roof a property on Oldham Road, Middleton. Emergency services and specialist officers are currently in attendance. Thank you for your patience as we deal with this incident."
The M.E.N understands the man is wanted by police.
