Burglars attempted to break into the home of Spain and Barcelona star Lamine Yamal shortly after Spain's 2-0 World Cup semi-final victory over France on Tuesday, according to reports. The 19-year-old was in the United States with the national team when the incident occurred.
Security Thwarts Break-In
The attempted burglary at Yamal's residence in Barcelona was discovered in the hours following Spain's triumph in Texas. Per El Espanol, Yamal's security team spotted two hooded individuals lurking on a wall and raised the alarm, preventing the robbery. Police are now investigating the matter.
Rising Trend of Footballer Home Robberies
Robberies targeting high-profile footballers' homes have become increasingly common, especially when players are away for international duty or matches. In February, two of Yamal's Barcelona teammates, Pau Cubarsi and Joan Garcia, were also targeted by burglars.
Spain's World Cup Journey
Spain defeated France 2-0 in the semi-final, with goals from Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro in each half. The reigning European champions will face either England or Argentina in the World Cup final on Sunday in New Jersey. Luis de la Fuente's side previously beat England in the Euro 2024 final.
