Jamie Vardy's luxury villa in Lake Garda, Italy, was burgled while the former England striker was playing a match in Rome. Thieves made off with £80,000 worth of belongings, including jewellery, cash and a Patek Philippe watch.
The break-in occurred at the £2 million villa in Salo, which Vardy shares with his wife Rebekah. Police believe a gang of three thieves had been watching the family and timed the raid to coincide with Vardy's absence. CCTV footage shows one individual entering through an open window.
Captain Giacomo Tessarolo of Salo police confirmed the theft was discovered when friends returned to the house and found items scattered on the floor. A babysitter was present during the incident but was unharmed.
Vardy joined Italian Serie A side Cremonese in the summer after 13 seasons at Leicester City. He has scored twice in eight appearances for the club. The footballer's move to Italy has been described as a family challenge, with Vardy expressing excitement about learning a new language and culture.
