Thai Fortune Teller Arrested for Stealing Teen's Phone to Fulfil Own 'Bad Luck' Prophecy
Fortune teller steals client's phone after bad luck prophecy

A fortune teller in Thailand has been taken into police custody following accusations he stole a teenage client's mobile phone to validate his own grim New Year's prediction.

The Prophecy and the Theft

The incident unfolded in the early hours of New Year's Day, 1 January, outside a temple in the coastal city of Pattaya. According to local reports, a 19-year-old woman, identified only as Pim, approached the 38-year-old mystic for a reading at around 6am local time.

The fortune teller warned Pim she was on the brink of severe misfortune and would imminently lose a valuable possession. He then urged her to give him money to perform a ritual that would avert this bad luck. Suspicious, the teenager refused to hand over any cash and left the session.

A Prediction 'Comes True'

Shortly after departing, Pim realised her iPhone 13 Pro was missing. Remembering she had placed it beside her during the consultation, she quickly returned to confront the fortune teller.

In a brazen twist, the man insisted the phone's disappearance merely proved the accuracy of his prediction. He even described the supposed thief's appearance in a further attempt to deflect blame. Growing increasingly suspicious, Pim sought help from members of the public, as reported by the Khaosod newspaper.

Discovery and Arrest

Police were called to the scene. A search of the fortune teller's belongings allegedly uncovered Pim's missing phone, concealed inside a box meant for face masks within his bag.

The suspect reportedly confessed to the theft after being detained. He pleaded with Ms Pim not to press charges, claiming he was a first-time offender who needed money for the new year. His appeals were unsuccessful.

Officers from the Pattaya City Police Station took the man into custody. They seized the stolen iPhone, which was returned to its rightful owner, along with the man's fortune-telling equipment.

This bizarre case serves as a stark reminder to be cautious of scams, even those dressed in the guise of spiritual guidance.
