Doncaster Thief Caught On Shed Roof By Police Helicopter

A wanted man's attempt to evade police in Doncaster ended with him stuck on a shed roof, tracked by a police helicopter. The 31-year-old suspect had tried to flee by hopping from garden to garden, but the National Police Air Service (NPAS) aircraft followed his every move.

Footage from above shows the man climbing onto the shed roof as officers closed in, urging him to climb down before arresting him. The chase began after the suspect failed to stop for police in South Yorkshire.

He was arrested on suspicion of two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a knife or bladed article, and recall to prison. A 20-year-old man who also tried to flee was arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, failing to stop, and drug possession.

Officers later found two stolen vehicles nearby and returned them to their owners. PC Gabi Marriott praised the teamwork between ground and air units, noting that the helicopter ensured the suspect was never out of sight.

Marriott added that recovering the stolen vehicles was satisfying, as vehicle crime impacts livelihoods and community safety. She urged the public to take steps to prevent theft.
