The Chase star Shaun Wallace has warned that street crime in London is "out of control" after thieves stole his rucksack outside St Pancras International station. The 66-year-old, known to ITV viewers as the Dark Destroyer, had his luggage swiped as he returned from a trip to Paris, according to The Sun.

How the theft happened

Wallace described the incident on NZ Coast Breakfast FM, explaining that a two-man crew tricked him into turning his back before taking his bag. He said: "I had three pieces of luggage, I had put two of them in the back of the cab and the taxi driver went round to the front and I had my rucksack with me."

He added: "Some guy came up to me and said, 'Oi mate, you dropped a card at the back!' I said, 'Alright' and went outside, left my bag there and by the time I came round, his mate had come in and nicked it."

Items lost in the theft

The stolen rucksack contained designer goods and personal items. Wallace said: "It had my favourite blue suede shoes, like Elvis, my Gucci perfume and I also had my two car keys in there because I couldn't find my original car keys."

Asked whether the thieves knew who they were targeting, the barrister said: "No they didn't recognise me, they don't care about that…crime in London is out of control."

Broader context of luggage thefts

Rail hubs have seen an ongoing focus from law enforcement. British Transport Police noted in September that luggage thefts had declined following targeted crackdowns on organised gangs.

The incident follows a raid on Jenson Button's wife Brittny, whose designer bag containing £250,000 worth of luxury items, antique wedding jewellery and baby keepsakes was recently stolen.
