An EasyJet flight from Newcastle was met by police on arrival in Prague on Thursday, as a series of bomb threats caused widespread diversions across Europe. At least a dozen planes were re-routed in the morning after being targeted.
Flights diverted across Europe
Services from Copenhagen, Helsinki, Madrid, Milan and Warsaw were among those affected. One flight from Dublin to Rome was diverted to an airfield in northern France. Most were re-routed to other airports for emergency landings, while others landed safely at their destinations.
Threat message and airline response
An email received by the company managing Rome's two airports threatened to "turn the skies red". The anonymous message, written in Italian, reportedly claimed to be written on behalf of "fighters of the male state" targeting a "feminist regime".
EasyJet confirmed that a flight from Newcastle and another from Glasgow were met by police on arrival in Prague "due to a security-related matter". Officers surrounded the flight, with easyJet saying safety is its "highest priority".
