Good Morning Britain paused on Thursday morning for a bombshell announcement regarding Prince Harry's safety. The Duke of Sussex is set to return to the UK next week, but a confidential security report reveals he faces six terrorist threats, five of which allegedly originate in Britain.
Security Report Details
According to ITV News, the broadcasters have seen a report prepared by the Sussexes' private security firm in February. It claims that Harry's protection officers are prevented from adequately responding to an armed attack while he is in the UK. The report concludes that the risk to the Duke and Duchess's safety is much higher in the UK because it is where the majority of the most serious threats have originated.
Specific Threats
The report outlines several risks, including senior al-Qaeda leaders reportedly threatening the assassination of the Duke of Sussex. It also details how a known stalker managed to get into the courtroom when Harry gave evidence at the High Court in January.
RAVEC's Response
The committee that decides who gets what protection, RAVEC, received the document but has not changed its mind. It is unclear whether Meghan Markle and their two children, Archie and Lilibet, will join him or whether he will come alone. Either way, the Duke and his family will not get state-backed security.
Expert Opinion
Former Metropolitan Police specialist operations detective Philip Grindell told Good Morning Britain: "There is absolutely no way in the world that if the UK authorities thought that there was a genuine, current, credible terrorist threat against him and his family that they wouldn't be providing that armed security." He added: "It is written from a perspective of bias to support the Duke's desire for armed protection."
