Northampton man jailed for terrorism offences

A British-Bangladeshi man from Northampton has been sentenced to two years and eight months imprisonment for terrorism-related offences, following an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing.

Mohammed Abdul Kuddus, 31, admitted to four counts of disseminating terrorist publications and one count of encouraging terrorism through social media platforms. The offences occurred between January 2020 and March 2021.

Extremist Material Shared Online

Investigators discovered that Kuddus had been actively sharing extremist Islamist content across multiple online platforms. The material included:

  • Videos promoting terrorist ideology
  • Content encouraging violent attacks
  • Propaganda from proscribed organisations
  • Instructions for carrying out terrorist acts

Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands, stated: "This case demonstrates our continued commitment to tackling terrorism in all its forms. Kuddus was disseminating dangerous material that had the potential to inspire others to commit acts of violence."

Community Cooperation Praised

Authorities have highlighted the importance of community cooperation in preventing terrorism. The investigation benefited from information provided by concerned members of the public who noticed suspicious online activity.

"We encourage anyone who sees concerning content online to report it immediately," added Detective Chief Superintendent Dunkerley. "Early intervention can prevent individuals from crossing the line into criminal activity and potentially save lives."

Kuddus was sentenced at the Old Bailey and will also be subject to notification requirements upon his release. The case forms part of ongoing efforts by UK security services to combat the spread of extremist material online.
