An Aer Lingus flight from Dublin to Rome was diverted to a French military base after receiving a bomb alert this morning. The aircraft, an Airbus A320 operating as flight EIN40G, landed in Evreux, northern France, at around 10am local time (9am GMT), with bomb disposal teams at the scene.
Emergency code sent over France
The flight left Dublin Airport at 6.40am and was scheduled to land at Rome Fiumicino at 10.35am local time (9.35am GMT). According to flight data, shortly after entering French airspace at around 8.45am local time (7.45am GMT), the aircraft sent out the 7700 squawk emergency code while flying at 37,000ft.
There were 151 passengers and six crew members aboard the aircraft, according to French newspaper Le Parisien, with a statement now describing them as "safe".
Prime minister's office monitoring situation
The office for the French prime minister said the situation is being "monitored closely" following the diversion to the base in Evreux. "The situation is being monitored in real time, as per procedures," the Prime Minister's office told Le Parisien.
The incident comes two days after seven flights across Europe received bomb alerts, leading to significant disruption.
