British YouTuber and rapper Yung Filly has been acquitted of rape and strangulation charges following a trial in Western Australia. The 30-year-old, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, denied all charges at the District Court of Western Australia.
After an eight-day trial in Perth, a jury on Friday acquitted Barrientos of three counts of sexual penetration without consent, an assault charge relating to an alleged slap, and a strangulation charge. The jury was unable to reach verdicts on three additional counts of sexual penetration without consent.
Guilty of assault charges
However, Barrientos was convicted on two further charges of assault occasioning bodily harm, linked to allegations that he bit the victim's neck and breast. Western Australia's courts confirmed the verdict was returned on Friday morning local time, after jury deliberations began on Wednesday afternoon.
Prosecutors had claimed Barrientos attacked the 20-year-old woman in his Perth hotel room while on tour in September 2024.
Career background
Barrientos has featured on numerous BBC programmes and is widely recognised for his work with YouTube collective Beta Squad. The rapper has represented England on Soccer Aid and appeared on The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer on Channel 4.
Among his other television credits, he hosted BBC series Hot Property and Munya And Filly Get Chilly alongside comedian Munya Chawawa, a spin-off of Freeze The Fear With Wim Hof.
Next court appearance
The case is due back in court on August 21, where a date for sentencing on the assault convictions will be confirmed. Prosecutors must also determine whether they intend to proceed with the three remaining charges on which the jury failed to reach a verdict.
