A 43-year-old woman was allegedly abducted and gang-raped by four men in a rickshaw in Tauru, near Nuh in northern India. The victim, believed to be a widow, was returning home after completing administrative tasks when she hired the rickshaw.
Details of the Attack
According to the Tribune in India, three passengers in the rickshaw alighted to stand guard while the driver drew the curtains and assaulted her. The suspects threatened her with death if she screamed. She managed to break free and flee when the attackers were distracted by the sound of a motorbike. The gang then taunted her, attempting to coerce her into silence.
Four men have been arrested and charged with rape following the incident on June 26, 2026, as reported by the Express. Inspector Chanderbhan of Tauru police stated that an investigation into the attack is ongoing.
Similar Incident in West Bengal
This news follows the tragic discovery of a 12-year-old girl's body in a pond after she was gang-raped en route to a shop in Baruipur, West Bengal. She failed to return home and was reported missing before her body was found concealed in a sack.
Two men have been arrested in connection with that incident, which occurred on July 5 and sparked protests. Kankar Prasad Barui, Inspector General of Police, declared: "The situation is under control. A large police picket has been deployed and no one involved in this heinous crime will be spared. We will ensure that all the accused are arrested and the strongest possible punishment is sought."
