A horrific gang rape has come to light after a woman was attacked in a secluded field in Kenya. The victim was knocked unconscious with a metal pole before being repeatedly raped. One of the perpetrators has been sentenced to 12 years in prison, while his accomplice remains on the run.
Attack Details
The incident occurred on January 15, 2015, at around 9pm, as the woman was walking to a shop in Turbo Sub-County, Uasin Gishu County, Kenya. Two men stopped her, struck her with a metal pole, and stole her mobile phone and cash. They then dragged her to a nearby field, where they took turns raping her before leaving her unconscious.
Arrest and Conviction
Benson Simiyu was arrested following the attack. He pleaded not guilty but was convicted by Senior Principal Magistrate Kesse Cheronoh on two counts: gang rape contrary to section 10 of the Sexual Offences Act No 3, and committing an indecent act with an adult contrary to section (A) of the same Act. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Second Suspect Still at Large
Police continue to search for the second suspect, who fled after the attack. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward. Turbo Sub-County, where the crime took place, has a population of approximately 210,000 and covers an area of 323 km².
The victim suffered severe trauma, including a head injury from the metal pole. After the assault, she was left bleeding and unconscious in the field, while the perpetrators escaped with her belongings.
